Many U.S. universities have departments devoted to Latin American studies some of which may also have more specific research centers devoted to specific Latin American countries. Several have institutions focusing on Cuba. There are also numerous independent organizations that are dedicated to studying Cuban history, policy, and other aspects of Cuban life; as well as group dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights on the island.

  • A non-profit academic organization dedicated to Cuban studies.

  • The University of Miami’s Institute for Cuban and Cuban American Studies as a world-class academic center for the research and study of Cuban and Cuban-American topics.

  • Think tank based in Washington DC focusing on policy analysis, exchange, and communication on issues in Western Hemisphere affairs.

Center for a Free Cuba http://cubacenter.org/en

  • Independent non-profit organization focusing on the protection of human rights and exposing human right violations to the international community.

Center for Democracy in the Americas http://democracyinamericas.org/

  • Its Cuba program focuses on building support for a new approach to U.S.-Cuba policy.

Cuba Study Group http://www.cubastudygroup.org

  • A non-profit organization focusing on facilitating a peaceful reunification with Cuba and the pursuit of a free society and protection of human rights.

Cuban American Commission for Family Rights http://cubanfamilyrights.org/

  • A group focusing on the defense of family rights and how they pertain to restrictions regarding travel and interaction with Cuba.

  • A national group that aims to ensure that U.S. policies towards Latin America promote human rights, justice, peace and sustainable development.
