Traveling to the Island
From Roots of Hope Wiki
Travel can be one of the most rewarding and memorable methods of exchange. There is a marked difference between reading or hearing about the beauty of Cuba’s landscapes and actually feeling the breeze of el Malecón for yourself. It not only allows you to experience everything first hand but also to connect and interact with Cubans on a personal basis. The dialogues and conversations that you may have while traveling will no doubt be much more engaging and interesting than anything that could be sustained from a distance.
Roots of Hope believes travel is a matter of personal choice, and we respect those who prefer not to. But for those who do decide to travel to Cuba – legally, of course – we believe they have the potential to facilitate a human exchange without parallel in its potential to further relationship building and mutual education. Understanding that travel to Cuba involves difficult choices, we also believe steps can be taken to ensure that travel is as socially conscious as possible.
